Vision of Hope is a new church that was the result of a merger between two existing Austin congregations (New Hope AME Church and Young Chapel AME Church). The churches recently merged in October 2009 and have a combined membership of approximately 120 members. The African Methodist Episcopal Church is the first organized black religious denomination founded in 1816 and New Hope AME Church was one of the first Methodist churches founded 137 years ago in the City of Austin. Rev. Mark Washington is the first pastor of the historic merged congregations.
